Timeless Travel In the True American Experience

Remarkable American Accounts

Ancestral

An American ancestor fought, as the tide turned. He was descended from a line of sheriffs afar back in England. And, he fought with Washington. He watched freedom rise, then take hold, with no small victory resounding across the 13 colonies. One of his sons went on to have a major river port named after him. Another went on to produce descendants, who as pioneers helped tame and settle the west. Of them, later on, a little girl was born to the family. While still small, she once sat on the lap of Buffalo Bill Cody. He was married to her aunt, who was visiting. His prominent beard bounced up and down when he spoke. Later, she would recall that frightened her at the time.

The little girl grew up, on a flourishing ranch, into a beautiful, American woman. Then one day, a suitor came to call on the young lady. Her mother approved of him but she did not. Soon, a parade was held in the town honoring a football team that had recently won a string of victories. The beautiful young woman watched as the team members passed by. And, her gaze fell on one young man among them. He was the most handsome she had ever seen. She almost instantly fell in love. And later on, they were introduced.

The young man became a new suitor, much to the young American woman's approval. But her mother intended her to marry the older man, who first sought her affection. Resisting the older man from the start, the young American woman followed her heart, head strong. She ran away with her true love. Then, they married. Soon, a family grew from their love that would weather the Great Depression.
